What each line is

MaterialsThe fabric, valued piece by piece at its area plus 10% plus a small fixed allowance, at the fabric’s price; and the accessories at their price (trim by the metre). The total is rounded. Burlap costs nothing. The dress designer works out the fabric figure for a design.
LabourOne gold for every seam and one for every accessory, so a strand of trim counts once however long it is. Seams depend on the pattern; the sale screen shows your dress’s own total.
Quality Bonus50% plus the dress’s Quality, from 50% to 150%. This Quality leaves fit out. Work it out on the quality calculator.
Prestige Bonus100% plus your shop rank. How rank rises is on shop rank and prestige.

When a sale makes money

Each accessory you add brings its price plus one gold of labour, times the two bonuses. Below Quality 50 at rank 0 the Quality bonus is under 100%, so dear accessories sell for less than they cost and decorating a poorly sewn dress loses money; at high Quality and a good rank the dearest accessories pay back most, which is the idea behind the brooch dress on making money. Every sale also adds prestige: Quality ÷ 100, times 6 ÷ (6 + the non-gift dresses you had finished before it).
