Priya, the Duke's sister

Priya comes to the funeral from the family side. The dead duke was her uncle and Duke Hassan is her brother, so her dress has a job to do: keep the would-be duchesses away from him. Her later cards follow her exhibition, a retreat, and a search for a lost brother.

Who Priya is

She is not in mourning: “Anyway, he is dead and shan't be missed, but I still need to look appropriately sad in public.” What worries her is her brother, of whom she says “Hassan suffers from being far too nice, I'm afraid.” and her plan for the funeral: “I'm going to spend the entire funeral fending off the advances of my brother's horde of new suitors.”

That puts her directly across from Prudence, who wants to marry him. After delivering the funeral dress, Priya warns you about a lady in a hideous hat who is plotting to get near her brother; Prudence, a few minutes earlier, had warned you about a lady who keeps interrupting her conversations with the Duke. The gossip paper after the funeral gives her full name, Lady Priya Summer, and says the two of them nearly came to blows.
