Gifts: what each client wants, and how a gift earns a friendship star
A gift dress earns a full star if it meets that client’s hidden gift card, or if its Quality, counted without her measurements, is 81 or more. Anything else earns a quarter of a star. Gifts never pay gold. A gift that earns the full star adds no prestige; one that misses adds the same small bit of prestige a failed commission does.
Full stars are what bring new patterns: each client’s stars one to five add her own set to your Sketchbook. Which pattern sits on which star is in the pattern unlock finder.
The easy full star: Quality 81 or more
The Quality check for a gift leaves measurements out. It is cutting and sewing only: 40% the grain of the cut pieces and 60% the sewing accuracy, rounded. That is the same score an off-the-rack dress gets, so a dress with no client in mind works as a gift. Above 80 means strictly above, so the rounded score has to reach 81; an even 80 is a quarter star.
| Grain Quality of your pieces | Sewing accuracy you need |
|---|---|
| 100% | 68% or better |
| 95% | 71% or better |

Pieces laid with their arrows running across the fabric read Grain Quality: 100% on the cutting table, and with that the sewing only has to reach 68%. Below 52% grain even perfect sewing falls short. Fixes for both numbers are on raising Quality.
Each client’s gift card
Meet every line and the gift counts even if the sewing is rough. Percentages are the share of the dress in that fabric or colour; counts are accessories. The Quality line here is checked the way a commission checks it, with her measurements counted.

The tags on these cards are the same bars a commission fills, so the fabric finder finds the cloth for a tag you are short on.
Where the Gift Dress button is

- Gifting opens after Prudence’s second dress, Undercover Servant.
- Finish a dress and take its photo. The Dress Complete! box now offers Gift Dress next to Keep working and Sell.
- Gift Dress opens Select Gift Recipient, a list of every client you have met. Pick the one whose card the dress fits, or anyone if its Quality without measurements is 81 or more.
More on the stars themselves, and on Berty’s extra orders, is on friendship. For cheap dresses to make as gifts, and what selling pays instead, see off the rack.
Do not gift the dress for a commission that is still open. Give that one away and the story can stall. If it has already happened, the fixes are on commission disappeared.
