Dressmaker questions, answered short
The questions that come up once you are a few dresses in, each answered in a paragraph.
Can you romance anyone?
Not so far. The relationship you build with each client is a friendship, five stars filled by finished commissions and gifts, and it unlocks new patterns rather than a romance. Love does turn up in the clients’ own stories: Prudence is set on marrying the Duke, and Alice goes looking for true love in the hedge maze. How stars and gifts work is on friendship stars and gifts.
Can you redo a commission you already delivered?
Not once it has been submitted and accepted. Closing the game will not take you back either: it autosaves, even in the middle of a problem. A failed commission still leaves the way to five stars open, because gifting a dress to that client adds stars too. So check a card before you hand it over, especially one with a cap like Chilly Overtime; the commission checker does it line by line.
Can you see the client wearing the dress?
No. Clients are 2D portraits, so the dress is never shown on them. You can still look at your past dresses: page left in the sketchbook and each one is there, and you can turn it around in 3D.
Is there a sandbox or free mode?
Not as a separate mode. There is no true sandbox, only the freedom of off-the-rack dresses. After the story ends you can keep designing whatever you like. An online challenge mode is planned, with no date. Off-the-rack dresses are on off the rack, selling and gifts.
What happens when the story ends?
The story commissions stop, and you may not get any more conversations with clients. If some clients still seem to have dresses left, check the pigeon: the extra commissions come by its letters. After that you can keep designing whatever you like, as in the sandbox answer above.
Are there trousers, suits or menswear?
Not so far: every commission is for a dress, and the pieces are bodices, collars, sleeves and skirts. Trousers and suits are much harder to get right.
Does it support mods?
Not officially. Mod support is not planned. Anything players make and share is unofficial, so back up your save before trying it.
Which languages is it in?
English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese, as listed on platforms and Steam Deck. More languages are being looked at now that the game is out.
