Pigeon Adoption: Dorothy’s dress, and Berty
Warm 50 and Eclectic 50 come easily from a velvet coat dress. What catches people out is the last two lines: the dress needs at least one jewel and at least one brooch. Dorothy only mentions the jewel.
What the card wants
- Quality 75 or more
- Warm 50 and Eclectic 50
- One jewel and one brooch, placed as accessories
- Budget 400, paid when you deliver
What passing it unlocks
- Berty the pigeon adopts you and brings extra orders by mail
- You’ve Got Mail: Complete Dorothy's first dress, and acquire Berty. 44.7% of players have it.
- The road to Birds of a Feather, Frock Together (0.8%), which needs every pigeon order done
A build that clears both tags
Coat Dress Bodice, Mandarin Collar, Long Cuffed Sleeve and Coat Dress Skirt, in Green Floral Burnout Velvet with Rosewood Wool. The velvet carries Warm 50 and Eclectic 50 on its own, and the wool adds Warm. Sewn, before a single accessory:
Another build was already at Warm 103 and Eclectic 69 halfway through sewing. Both tags have room to spare, so pick the jewel and brooch for looks. If you want another fabric, look for velvets that list both Warm and Eclectic; how the tags add up is on style tags.
The jewel and the brooch
- In the accessory shop, set Type to Jewel and buy one, then set it to Brooch and buy one. They are separate types with separate lines on the card.
- Place both after the last seam. The panel ticks Jewel and Brooch as soon as each lands on the dress; two jewels still read as a pass.
- Look at both lines before you press Finish Dress. A dress delivered without its jewel fails the card, and the journal may not offer a second try. Or enter your numbers in the commission checker.
The brooches and jewels seen in the shop cost 20 to 40 each, which the 400 you are paid covers many times over. More on placing them is on lace trim and accessories.

Dorothy’s side of it
Berty is judging you, and the dress is the test: “Right! Now, in order to make his decision, he would like to see your skills in action.” The mail he would carry is the point of the adoption: “If Berty adopts you, he would be prepared to deliver your correspondence.”
Delivered: “I can't wait to show the local flock. What do you think, Berty?” From then on the pigeon brings optional orders that do not expire, and cards you missed in the story can come back that way. How mail orders and visiting cards decide who comes next is on friendship. Finish an open story card before you take a pigeon letter: taking one partway through can hide the card, and a commission that vanished explains how to get it back. Dorothy’s later cards are on her page.
