Biographer’s Interview: glamorous daywear for Edith
Glamour 25 and Risqué 20 come almost by themselves once the fabric has a bit of sparkle. Daywear 50 is the line that comes up short, and the card also wants one brooch placed on the dress, which Edith never asks for out loud.

That shape is typical. Fabrics with sparkle carry Glamour and Risqué but little Daywear, so Daywear trails while the other two race ahead; another build halfway through sewing sat at Daywear 42 with Glamour 54 and Risqué 44. A brooch will not rescue Daywear: the two below carry none.
The two fixes, in order
- Swap one piece to a daywear fabric. Recutting a single piece in a plain cotton that carries Daywear 50 took the dress above from 45 to 53. It cost some Glamour and Risqué (31 to 27, 26 to 22), which is why it helps to be well over on both before you swap. Linen, cotton and bows all carry Daywear. Adding more accessories for Daywear stops working after a point: see a tag that will not go up.
- Place one brooch. It ticked the Brooch line and put Glamour back up from 27 to 32.
- Check before Finish Dress. Recutting the piece dropped Quality to 92; sewing it carefully brought it back to 100. Anything from 75 up passes, and the commission checker will confirm the rest.

Finding a brooch
In the shop
Open the Accessories side of the emporium and set Type to Brooch. Jade Flower Brooch and Pearl Swirl Brooch were 40 each, well inside the 500 Edith pays.
What one adds
Both carry Elaborate 5, Elegant 5, Eveningwear 5, Glamour 5 and Shimmering 5, so a brooch nudges Glamour and does nothing for Daywear or Risqué.
Brooches only go on after the last seam, like every accessory. Placement keys are on lace trim and accessories.
Two builds that work
| Piece | Build A | Build B |
|---|---|---|
| Bodice | Cinched Keyhole Blouse | Single Keyhole Bodice |
| Collar | Pointed Collar | No Collar |
| Sleeves | Long Cuffed Sleeve | Bracelet Sleeve |
| Skirt | Straight Long Skirt, circle skirt or princess skirt | Bias Cut Skirt |
| Fabric | Velvets for Glamour and Risqué, linen or cotton for Daywear | Amethyst Cotton with a purple floral silk |
What Edith is after
“I want to impress this young man. I must look just right for the occasion.” The Risqué line comes from the end of her request: “Maybe make it a teensy bit risqué?”
Pleased, she promises “Oh, you'll be seeing me again in no time.” She does: her next card is Phoenix Costume, with more Risqué and four feathers. All her cards are on Edith’s page.
