Not Haughty: a dress for Prudence that is not too good
A glazier was rude to Prudence, and her answer is a plain, hard-wearing, uncomfortable dress. The catch is the first line of the card: Quality 70 is a ceiling here, although the card does not say Max. Sew it as well as you sew everything else and it fails.

Quality 70 here is a ceiling even though the card does not print (Max): a dress at 62 passes and one at 97 fails.

That panel is the whole puzzle. Because the card leaves out the word Max, a red Quality 74/70 can look like a bug. A dress at 97 fails the same way, and one at 62 passes. Meanwhile the three style tags are ordinary floors, so the dress has to be bad at being well made while still being good at being plain, practical and uncomfortable.

Bringing Quality down on purpose

To lower Quality on this dress, use the cutting table and the sewing machine. Aim for the 60s rather than scraping 70: it is easier to stop low than to win back a point you went over by.
- Cut some pieces off the grain. Turn a panel away from its arrow before you cut and its grain reading drops below 100%. How grain is read is on grain, gradients and prints.
- Sew off the line. Wander from the guide, or sew into the seam allowance, and the piece loses quality.
- Turn Sewing Assist off for this dress if you use it: it is there to help you reach 100%.
Went over anyway? Unpick one panel with the Seam Ripper, recycle it, and cut it again crooked. The steps are on getting Quality up, which is the same work in the other direction.
Hitting the three floors
- Uncomfortable 25
Try burlap: it raises Uncomfortable. A burlap skirt did it on the panel above.
- Workwear 40
Pick work pieces in the sketch, since the pieces carry tags as well as the fabric. If Workwear stalls a couple of points short, try a stronger fabric on one piece before adding accessories. See a tag that will not go up.
- Simple 40
Usually the easy one on a plain work dress: the panel above had 58 against 40.
If the burlap looks too grim, the plain parts can be dressed up with accessories once the numbers are safe, as long as Simple stays above 40.

Check it before you hand it over
Run the numbers before you hand it over: the pass-or-fail checker opens on this card and treats Quality as a ceiling. Rose’s Chilly Overtime caps tags in the same way. The rest of Prudence’s dresses, and what she says when she orders them, are on Prudence’s page.
