Dressmaker mods
No official support, but a fan scene on Nexus Mods already adds fabrics, accessories, translations and a few accessibility fixes. Back up your save before you install any of them.
From the studio
The studio has no official mod support planned for now, so the mods listed here are unofficial and installed by hand.
From players
Dressmaker has its own section on Nexus Mods, with a mod loader, fabric packs, fan translations and quality-of-life tweaks.
Mods worth knowing about
| Mod | What it does |
|---|---|
| Yuuma's Dressmaker ModLoader | The loader most other mods need. It loads packs of new fabrics, accessories and translations, lets you make your own fabrics inside the game, and adds a Mod Settings page with a sandbox mode and a few quality-of-life switches (listed below). |
| Dress Maker ESP | A Spanish translation of most of the menus, tutorials and dialogue. The mod page has install steps with pictures. |
| Traducao Completa Dressmaker PT-BR | A Brazilian Portuguese translation. |
| Reduced Motion and Effects | Removes the sewing camera zoom, flashing lights and high-contrast effects. The game’s own settings cannot turn the zoom off. |
| Dressmaker Automation | Automatic grain alignment and automatic mannequin sizing, for hands that struggle with the fine work, plus infinite money. |
Many of the rest are fabric packs; each page says whether it needs the loader. Fan translations for Arabic, Czech, Indonesian, Thai and Ukrainian are on the same Nexus page. The official languages are on the FAQ.
What the ModLoader adds
Installed, the loader puts a Manage Mods entry in the game’s Options. It adds content alongside the game’s own items rather than replacing them.
| Where | What it does |
|---|---|
| Mod Settings: Sandbox Mode | A sandbox mode for designing freely. It comes from the mod; the game itself has no sandbox mode. |
| Mod Settings: accessory symmetry | Places accessories symmetrically, the mirror tool the base game lacks. |
| Mod Settings: pins and stripes | Hides the red pins, and stops the moving red warning stripes on the cutting table. |
| Mod Settings: mannequin size | Controls for the mannequin’s size. |
| Arrow keys | Nudge a selected accessory in small steps. |
| Manage Mods: Make fabrics | Make your own fabric: name, textile type, colour, price, a PNG or JPEG texture, and which tags it carries and how strongly. Several fabrics go in one pack, which it can zip up to share. |
| Manage Mods: Save backups | Zips your saves and dress thumbnails. A restored backup applies on the next launch. |
On Windows the loader’s zip goes into the game folder beside Dressmaker.exe (Steam: right-click the game, Manage, Browse local files); on a Mac it has its own installer. Restart the game after changing packs.
Before you install one
- Copy your save folder somewhere safe. On Windows it looks to be
C:\Users\<you>\AppData\LocalLow\Cozy Lives\Dressmaker. The game autosaves, so a mod that breaks something can take your progress with it. - Install the loader first if the mod page says it needs it, and follow that page’s own steps.
- Take mods out before you report a bug on the Steam discussion board, so the fix you get is for the game and not the mod. Known problems are on bugs and fixes and crashes and saves.
Things you can do without a mod
- Hide the red pins while checking trim: switch the side panel to Patterns. How is on checking the look while you trim.
- Get pieces to 100% grain with the scroll wheel or Page Up and Page Down, which snap a piece back into line: see grain and gradients.
- Make sewing easier with Sewing Assist in the settings; it also helps with motion sickness. See motion sickness while sewing.
- Money to design freely without a cheat: burlap is free, so plain burlap dresses sold off the rack cost nothing but time. The fastest routes are on making money.
